Free applicant tracking system: what you get

A free applicant tracking system (ATS) is enough for many small companies that hire a few times a year. Here is what free plans usually include, where the limit is, and what to check before you choose.

What a free plan usually includes

• A few active jobs at a time, often one or two. Closed jobs usually don't count.
• A list or board per job, so you can see who is new, invited to an interview or rejected.
• A simple career page or an application link you can share on job boards and LinkedIn.
• Fewer automations and less AI than the paid plans.

Where the limit is

A free plan gets too small when you have several jobs open at once, when many colleagues need to review candidates, or when AI has to read a lot of CVs every month. Check what happens when you hit the limit: can you close a job and open a new one, or do you have to upgrade straight away?

Free and low-cost options in Denmark (checked 31 October 2026)

• Odoo has a free plan with one app and unlimited users. If you pick the Recruitment app, you get an ATS, but the rest of Odoo is priced per user.
• Homerun has no free plan; the smallest plan starts at €109 a month for 3 active jobs on an annual contract.
• Recruitee and Teamtailor don't show prices on their pages. Recruitee offers a free trial, Teamtailor quotes after a demo.
• Jobindex is a job board, not an ATS: a do-it-yourself job ad costs DKK 1,025 and a profile job ad DKK 3,085 excl. VAT.

Five questions before you pick a free plan

1. How many active jobs can we have, and is there a time limit?
2. Do we have to enter a payment card to start?
3. Can we export our candidates if we switch systems?
4. How long are applications kept, and are they deleted automatically (GDPR)?
5. Can the AI reject candidates without a human? Under the EU AI Act, AI that assesses candidates is high-risk from 2 December 2027.
