Job ad template: how to write a job posting

A good job ad answers what a candidate wants to know before applying: what the job is, what you require, what it pays and what happens after they apply. Here is a template you can copy and a checklist for what often goes wrong.

The 8 parts of a job ad

  1. Title: the title people search for ("Warehouse worker", "Bookkeeper"), not an internal name. Put part-time or temporary in the title if it is.
  2. About you: two or three sentences on who you are and where the job is.
  3. The work: what the person does in a normal week, as 4-6 bullet points.
  4. Requirements: only what is truly needed. Separate "must have" from "nice to have"; many people don't apply unless they meet every line.
  5. What you offer: pay, hours, location or remote work, pension, training.
  6. Pay: a range, for example DKK 32,000-36,000 a month. See the section on pay transparency below.
  7. How to apply: a link or button, the deadline and whether you read applications as they arrive.
  8. The process: when you reply, how many interviews there are and when the job starts.

Avoid discrimination

Under the Danish Anti-Discrimination Act (forskelsbehandlingsloven) you may not screen out candidates because of age, gender, ethnic origin, religion, disability and similar grounds, and that includes the ad itself. Avoid words like "young" or "native Danish speaker" when what you mean is "speaks fluent Danish". Describe what the job needs, not the person. Don't ask for age or date of birth in the application form.

Pay transparency from 2027

The EU Pay Transparency Directive has to be brought into Danish law, and the rules are expected to apply from 1 January 2027 (checked 4 November 2026). Candidates must then know the pay or pay range before the first interview, and you may not ask about current or past pay. "Salary by agreement" becomes hard to use. Start writing a range in your ads now.

Checklist before you publish

  • Can the title be found on Jobindex, LinkedIn and Google?
  • Are there at most 5-8 requirements, with "nice to have" kept apart?
  • Is there a pay range?
  • Is there a deadline and a date for replies?
  • Are there words about age, gender or origin you can remove?
  • Can people apply from a phone in a few minutes, without creating an account?

How jah.dk does it

In jah.dk the job form has fields for the pay range, workplace and remote work. The AI writer can draft the ad from your notes and flags wording that may be discriminatory; you edit and approve. The ad goes on your career page, on jajob.dk and in Google for Jobs. On the career page and in the widget, candidates apply without creating an account. More in Jobs and hiring projects.
